Former elections chief deputy sues Grimes County for wrongful termination

The former elections chief deputy has filed a lawsuit against Grimes County claiming that she was wrongfully terminated after reporting illegal actions allegedly done by the the Elections Administrator.

The lawsuit was filed in June and stated that the Elections Administrator accepted a late absentee ballot, mailed a ballot to a voter before a voter application was received, and delivered a voter application to a resident in an assistant living center after the deadline.

The former employee claimed that these election violations began in October 2010 and that November, the woman reported the violations to a judge in Grimes County. By December, no actions were done against the administrator and the former employee claimed that she was retaliated against.

The in April, the administrator allegedly asked the woman to change the facts on a voting application and when it was asked if this was a violation, the woman was terminated.

Bandera County deputy settles whistleblower lawsuit

A former Bandera County deputy has now settled a whistleblower lawsuit against the county and the sheriff after the deputy’s complaints caused the sheriff to lose his job.

According to recently released records, the former deputy received $270,000 in the settlement. Although the man was happy to receive the money, he announced that he was more happy to see a criminal prosecution against the sheriff.

The 44-year-old man filed a lawsuit that stated that he was fired in May 2009 after he reported “unlawful, irregular and corrupt activities” within the department. The man was fired after nine years as a deputy for Bandera County.

Senate passes bill to further extend protection on whistleblower nurses

The Senate has just passed a bill that will help further protect nurses in whistleblower situations after two nurses in Winkler County lost their jobs and faced criminal charges for reporting a doctor that was giving substandard care.

The incident began after the two nurses reported the doctor to the Texas Medical Board. The doctor then found out that the board was investigating anonymous claims and told the sheriff.

The sheriff then held an investigation to determine who made the claims. They were then found and faced criminal charges as a result of the complaints. The board the cited the doctor withe multiple charges including improper treatment in an emergency room.

The bill that was passed last week was done so that this situation would not happen again. There will now be a $25,000 imposed a license holder who attempts to retaliate against nurses.
